Testing and Grading

We truly believe that the assessment should be done in a way that will support and advance the student learning. Providing a constructive and encouraging evaluation is essential for giving students a true feedback on their academic achievements. Receiving feedback in relation to the course basis and expectations enables the students to learn strategies for further improvement.

The grading at AHSS is based on a multifaceted approach in combination with individual standpoint. This means that the grades are formed by taking into consideration each student’s class activity, tests, projects or essays, and any course specific task. The grading of the students is based on the general assessment system in our country and aligned with the scoring system in American high schools. Extracurricular courses are graded with the pass/fail description only. Besides this, students are also given descriptive evaluations of their overall academic success, their personal and group achievements, and the implementation of planned activities, as well as their overall school behavior.

The IB DP assessment is based on several aspects and types of assessment, including formative, summative, internal and external assessment. The grades are also aligned with the IB DP principles and assessment policy.

At the end of each year, every student receives a standard Macedonian diploma with the equivalent (numeric) grading, as well as our AHSS report card. The graduates receive the AHSS diploma, together with the State Matura diploma and/or the IB DP diploma.
